Kolkata Metro will run extended overnight services on the Blue and Green lines from Saptami to Navami during Durga Puja, with trains operating until the early hours to manage the city’s festival travel demand. The schedule was announced on Thursday and includes four nights of late services this year because Saptami will be observed on October 17 and 18.
On the Blue Line, Metro Railway will operate 284 services on Panchami and Sashthi, October 15 and 16, between 6am and 11pm. Trains will run at a peak-hour frequency of six minutes on both days.
From Saptami through Navami, October 17 to 20, the Blue Line will operate 248 trains each day from 1pm until 4am the following day. The peak-hour frequency during this period will be six minutes. On Dashami, October 21, the line will run 140 services between 1pm and 10.30pm, with trains scheduled at eight-minute intervals during peak hours.
The Green Line will also have extended operations during the festival. On Panchami and Sashthi, it will run 240 services each day from 6am to 11pm, with a peak-hour frequency of six minutes. From Saptami to Navami, 192 services will operate from 1.30pm until 3.59am the next day, with trains running at an interval of eight minutes during peak hours.
On Dashami, the Green Line will operate 74 trains from 1.30pm to 10.30pm, with a 15-minute interval between services. The extended timings are intended to support movement between major residential areas, transport interchanges and the city’s Durga Puja destinations during the busiest days of the festival.
Metro Railway’s published schedule also includes service timings for other corridors during the puja period. The supplied report lists additional daily train counts and operating hours, but does not identify each of those numerical schedules by line in the available text. It separately states that the Orange Line will remain closed to commercial services from Saptami to Dashami.
The expanded night operation will give commuters an alternative to road transport after regular evening peak hours, when visitor movement rises sharply across Kolkata. The precise availability of services will vary by line and festival day, with the Blue and Green lines receiving the longest operating windows during Saptami, Ashtami and Navami.
Metro Railway’s schedule covers Panchami through Dashami, from October 15 to October 21. The four-day late-night operation from October 17 to 20 reflects the calendar change that places Saptami across two dates this year.
