Eastern Railway has announced a set of temporary changes to local train services under its Sealdah Division, including a new stop for Sealdah–Krishnanagar AC EMU locals, a special service between Shantipur and Krishnanagar, and late-night trains between Sealdah and Budge Budge.
The Kolkata local train update is intended to improve passenger access and late-hour connectivity on routes serving Nadia, South 24 Parganas and the wider Sealdah suburban network. The measures will be introduced on an experimental basis and will remain in effect until December 31, 2026, according to the announcement reported by The Indian Express.
The Sealdah–Krishnanagar–Sealdah AC EMU local services will receive an additional temporary stoppage at Badkulla station from October 12. The stop will apply to four services numbered 31845, 31846, 31847 and 31848.
Eastern Railway said the additional halt is aimed at making the air-conditioned suburban services more accessible to passengers travelling to and from Badkulla. The available announcement identifies the services and the duration of the experimental stoppage, but the detailed arrival and departure timings at Badkulla are not included in the supplied report.
From October 13, the railway will also operate one pair of EMU special trains between Shantipur and Krishnanagar via Dignagar. These services will run until December 31 as an experimental arrangement. The move adds a direct operating link between the two stations on a section where passengers may otherwise need to depend on existing services and connections.
The railway has also announced temporary changes to the timings of two existing EMU local trains in connection with the new Shantipur–Krishnanagar special service. The supplied report confirms the timing revisions but does not provide the revised schedules.
A separate pair of night-hour special trains will operate between Sealdah and Budge Budge until December 31. Eastern Railway has described the service as a measure to improve late-night last-mile connectivity for passengers using the suburban route.
The changes highlight the role of the Sealdah Division in providing more than peak-hour commuter capacity. Temporary halts, timetable adjustments and late-night services can affect how passengers connect between stations, residential areas and workplaces, particularly on routes where the availability of the last train determines access to the wider city.
All three measures are time-bound experiments rather than permanent timetable changes. Passengers using Badkulla, Shantipur, Krishnanagar, Sealdah and Budge Budge should check the applicable railway timetable and station announcements before travelling, as the services and revised timings are scheduled to remain in force only through December 31, 2026.
