An actor was injured in an alleged app-cab incident near Kalighat Metro station in south Kolkata after, according to her complaint, the driver moved the vehicle while she was trying to retrieve a bag left inside it. Police have begun investigating the complaint and are examining CCTV footage from the Rashbehari area to identify what happened and determine action against the driver.
The actor, Sampita Pramanik, is a resident of Tala in north Kolkata and had reportedly booked the cab after finishing a shoot at the NT-1 Studio in Tollygunge. According to the report published by Sangbad Pratidin, a dispute began during the journey over the route and fare. The driver allegedly stopped the vehicle near Kalighat Metro station and asked her to get out.
Pramanik told police that she was forced to leave the cab but realised that her bag was still inside. When she reached through the vehicle’s window to retrieve it, the driver allegedly drove away. She reportedly held on to the door and was dragged along the road for some distance while calling for help.
The actor eventually lost her grip and fell on the road. The report said she was then hit by another vehicle. Passers-by helped her stand, after which she went to Kalighat police station in an injured and distressed condition. She received preliminary medical treatment before filing a complaint against the app-cab driver.
The complaint reportedly includes the driver’s name and the vehicle’s registration number. These details are being used by police as they investigate the incident. Police are examining CCTV recordings from the Rashbehari area to establish the sequence of events and trace the driver.
The report does not identify the app-cab platform or provide details of the actor’s injuries beyond stating that she was hurt. It also does not state whether the driver has been located or whether any arrest has been made. Police have said that action against the driver will be taken based on the investigation and the CCTV footage.
