A new Khammam housing project will provide 5,000 free houses to eligible poor beneficiaries in the Sathupalli and Aswaraopeta assembly constituencies, Housing Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy said on Saturday. The initiative, estimated to cost ₹300 crore, is being proposed by TANLA Foundation founder Uday Kumar Reddy using his personal funds, subject to the state government allotting house sites.
The proposed houses will be constructed in the two constituencies in the erstwhile Khammam district. The minister said the foundation had come forward to undertake the construction through its charitable activities, while the government would facilitate the availability of sites for eligible beneficiaries.
The arrangement places the immediate responsibility for beneficiary identification and land allocation with the district administration. Reddy directed the collectors of Khammam and Bhadradri Kothagudem districts to identify eligible applicants and complete the process of allotting house sites.
The announcement links private philanthropy with the state’s housing delivery system. While the construction funding is expected to come from TANLA Foundation, the project cannot proceed for identified beneficiaries until suitable sites are allotted by the government.
