KBR Park Flyover Works Accelerated as GHMC Targets One-Way Traffic

KBR Park flyover construction and junction works in Hyderabad

The KBR Park flyover project in Hyderabad is set to move faster, with the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) directing officials and the executing agency to accelerate junction improvement works and foundation-related investigations around the park. The measures are intended to facilitate one-way traffic flow and safer lane changes at several congested junctions.

According to a report by Deccan Chronicle, GHMC commissioner R.V. Karnan inspected the proposed 4.3-km elevated corridor from the Jubilee Hills checkpost to the NFCL junction along with civic officials. The inspection covered the progress of foundation excavations and improvement works at key junctions near KBR Park.

The immediate junction works are focused on the KBR Park main entrance, the Agrasen statue junction and the Jubilee Hills checkpost. Changes are also planned at traffic islands near Filmnagar and Road No. 45. The junctions vary in size, and the proposed interventions are intended to organise vehicle movement around the park while allowing motorists to switch lanes more safely.

The GHMC has instructed the agency executing the project, estimated at Rs 1,090 crore, to speed up the works. The agency has also been told to immediately begin geotechnical investigations for foundation design on the stretch between Mugdha junction and NFCL junction.

The geotechnical investigations are an important step in determining foundation design for the elevated corridor. The report does not provide a completion deadline or details of the traffic diversions that may be introduced while the foundation and junction works proceed. It also does not specify the number of ramps, piers or lanes planned for the corridor.

The project links a series of major urban junctions around KBR Park, including the Jubilee Hills checkpost, Agrasen statue junction, Filmnagar, Road No. 45, Mugdha junction and NFCL junction. The current works therefore combine immediate traffic-management changes at ground level with investigations for a longer elevated road connection.

The latest inspection indicates that the GHMC is monitoring both components together: junction modifications intended to support one-way movement and the preparatory work required for the elevated corridor. The next stated milestone is the commencement of geotechnical investigations on the Mugdha junction-NFCL junction stretch, alongside faster progress on foundation excavations and junction improvement works.
