Karnataka Voter List Revision Completes 82% of Notice Hearings

Karnataka’s special voter-list revision has completed hearings for 35.60 lakh, or 81.99%, of the notices issued so far, according to a statement from the office of the state Chief Electoral Officer on Friday afternoon.

The revision exercise generated 43.82 lakh notices in total. Of these, 43.43 lakh had been issued, while 39,169 notices were still awaiting distribution, the statement said. Hearings on 7.82 lakh of the notices already distributed remained pending at the time of the update.

The figures provide the latest statewide account of the administrative work underway to examine voter records during the special integrated revision. The process involves hearings on notices issued to voters and the processing of applications connected with the draft electoral roll.

The Chief Electoral Officer’s office also reported substantial activity among people who were left out of the draft voter list. As many as 8.85 lakh people had submitted applications for fresh enrolment, according to the statement. These applications are intended to add eligible names to the electoral roll through the revision process.

The exercise has also generated applications from people whose names were already present in the draft list. A total of 84,900 people submitted applications seeking removal of their own names or those of family members, while 11.78 lakh people applied to correct details in the draft roll.

The numbers indicate that the revision is involving several distinct administrative tasks at the same time: completing hearings on notices, distributing the remaining notices, processing applications for new enrolment, removing names at the request of voters or their families, and correcting voter information.

The pending notice hearings and the 39,169 notices yet to be distributed remain part of the unfinished work identified in the latest official update. The statement did not provide a district-wise break-up of the completed hearings, pending cases, applications or corrections in the information supplied by the report.

The revision’s administrative outcome will depend on how these pending hearings and applications are processed before the electoral roll is finalised. For voters, the figures make clear that checking names and details in the draft roll remains important, particularly for those who have applied for fresh enrolment or corrections.

The office of the Chief Electoral Officer issued the update on Friday afternoon, reporting the status of hearings and applications as part of the ongoing special integrated revision of Karnataka’s voter list.
