Karnataka Panchayat Reservation List Opens Objection Window Until October 19

Karnataka panchayat reservation list covering district and taluk panchayat constituencies

The Karnataka government has published reservation lists for all 4,785 member constituencies in the state’s district and taluk panchayats, giving citizens until 5pm on October 19 to submit objections against the allocation.

The list covers 1,129 seats in 31 district panchayats and 3,656 seats in taluk panchayats. Reservation has been fixed for every seat, including constituencies designated for the general category. Within each reservation category, 50% of seats have been earmarked for women.

According to the report published by Prajavani, objections must be submitted with supporting documents to the Secretary, Panchayat Raj Department, at the Multi-storeyed Building, Third Stage, Ambedkar Veedhi, Bengaluru–560001. Submissions can be made either by post or in person and must reach the department by the stated deadline.

In the district panchayats, 225 seats have been reserved for Scheduled Castes, 102 for Scheduled Tribes, 183 for Backward Class-A, 43 for Backward Class-B and 576 for the general category. These allocations together account for all 1,129 district panchayat constituencies.

For taluk panchayats, the reservation list includes 733 seats for Scheduled Castes, 394 for Scheduled Tribes, 508 for Backward Class-A, 111 for Backward Class-B and 1,910 for the general category. The figures cover all 3,656 taluk panchayat seats across the state.

The publication of the list begins a formal review period before the reservation arrangement is finalised. The objection process gives affected residents, prospective candidates and other stakeholders an opportunity to challenge an allocation by submitting documentary support to the Panchayat Raj Department.

The reservation structure will shape representation in Karnataka’s rural local bodies, which are responsible for administering local development and public services within their respective jurisdictions. The decision on objections and any subsequent changes will determine the final category-wise distribution of constituencies for the panchayat election process.

The deadline for filing objections is October 19 at 5pm. The department has not, in the supplied report, announced a separate date for publishing the final reservation list after objections are examined.
