Ten passengers were injured after two jeeps collided near Karate village in Patan taluka on the Karad–Chiplun road, with one vehicle plunging into a ravine and the other overturning in a roadside ditch, according to a report by Pune Mirror. The accident occurred on Monday while the vehicles were travelling from Koynanagar.
The injured passengers were initially taken to a hospital in Patan for treatment. Shamrao Jadhav, a resident of Nanel village, suffered critical injuries and was later shifted to Krishna Hospital in Karad for further medical care. The remaining injured passengers were treated in Patan and subsequently discharged, the report said.
Primary information cited in the report indicates that the crash occurred when the drivers allegedly lost control while attempting to overtake other vehicles. Both jeeps moved off the road after the collision. One vehicle fell into a deep ravine, while the second came to rest in a ditch beside the road.
The vehicles involved in the crash were identified by their registration numbers as MH 08 R 5561 and MH 11 L 8336. The report did not specify the exact location of the ravine, the depth of the fall or the road conditions at the time of the accident.
The incident places attention on the risks faced by passengers using roads that connect towns and villages through hilly terrain. A vehicle leaving the carriageway in such areas can result in injuries that require immediate rescue, stabilisation and referral to larger hospitals. In this case, the most seriously injured passenger was transferred from Patan to Karad after initial treatment.
The circumstances leading to the accident are being examined. Further details on the investigation, including any police action, road-safety assessment or confirmation of the alleged overtaking manoeuvre, were not available in the supplied report.
