Jantar Mantar Protest Faces Tension Over Call to Carry Sticks

Jantar Mantar protest site in Delhi with police barriers and gathering crowds

A planned protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar on October 10 has drawn a counter-mobilisation appeal from social media influencer Rinku Yadav, who has asked supporters to assemble near the Gurugram-Delhi border and carry sticks, according to a report by Live Hindustan – NCR. Yadav later said sticks would be used only if protesters created disorder or clashed with police.

The demonstration is being organised by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The report said the party is preparing to gather at Jantar Mantar, while some people have appealed to the public to oppose the protest.

Yadav, also identified in the report as Kumud Rao, released a video on Thursday saying he would attend the demonstration on Saturday. He asked wrestlers, gym-goers and other supporters from Delhi, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh to assemble at 11am in front of Ambience Mall on the Gurugram-Delhi border before travelling together to Jantar Mantar.

The influencer, who the report said has around 450,000 followers across Facebook, Instagram and YouTube, has released several videos calling on people to gather against the CJP. In one earlier video, he appealed to wrestlers and gym-goers to come to Jantar Mantar with sticks.

In his latest message, Yadav said supporters should not hit any innocent person or create a riot. He said sticks would be used only if members of the CJP allegedly attempted to create disorder, enter Parliament or assault police personnel. He also said the group would not object if the party peacefully presented its demands.

CJP co-convener Saurabh Das shared one of Yadav’s videos and alleged that the government was placing citizens against one another to create unrest. Das described the situation as an attempt to create conditions resembling civil conflict. These allegations were reported by Live Hindustan – NCR and were not independently examined in the supplied material.

The planned gathering places Jantar Mantar, a designated protest site in central Delhi, at the centre of a potential public-order challenge involving two competing mobilisations. The reported assembly point near Ambience Mall also raises an operational issue for movement between Gurugram and Delhi, although the source report did not provide details of any police restrictions, permissions or traffic arrangements.

The next stated development is the proposed assembly at the Gurugram-Delhi border at 11am on October 10, followed by the planned protest at Jantar Mantar.
