Traffic on the Inter State Bus Terminal–Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College and Hospital road in Jamshedpur was disrupted for about two hours on Saturday after truckers blocked Bhuiyadih Chowk to protest repeated thefts from parked vehicles. The resulting traffic jam stretched nearly 2 km up to Golmuri Chowk before police persuaded the protesters to clear the road.
The protest followed the alleged theft of galvanised metal wire from a parked truck on the Bhuiyadih–Subarnarekha crematorium lane in the early hours of Saturday. Truck operators said the incident was part of a wider pattern, alleging that automobile parts and other goods had been stolen from trucks parked along the stretch in recent months.
The affected road links the ISBT and MGM Medical College and Hospital area with Golmuri and Bhuiyadih. The blockade at Bhuiyadih Chowk temporarily restricted vehicular movement on the Golmuri–Bhuiyadih route, creating congestion for other road users and transport vehicles using the corridor.
Truck operators told local police that repeated complaints about thefts had not produced a satisfactory response. Their protest brought attention to the vulnerability of freight vehicles that remain stationed overnight along the road, particularly near the crematorium lane and Bhuiyadih Chowk.
Police officials assured the truckers that surveillance would be strengthened and night patrols intensified along the affected stretches. Faguni Paswan, officer-in-charge of Sitaramdera police station, said the measures would focus on preventing further thefts from parked trucks in areas identified as vulnerable.
The blockade was lifted after the assurance from local police, and traffic movement on the Golmuri–Bhuiyadih road returned to normal. The police response will now determine whether increased patrols and surveillance address the complaints raised by truck operators and reduce the risk to freight vehicles parked overnight in the area.
