Police in Jalgaon have registered a case against the owner of a road construction company, a road engineer and a truck driver after a 12-year-old boy was killed and his father seriously injured in a crash on the Humbardi-Faizpur road on Friday. The complaint alleges that ongoing construction lacked adequate safety measures and warning signs.
The deceased was identified as Lalit Kaviraj Chavan, a resident of Anjala village in Yaval taluka. He was originally from Burhanpur district in Madhya Pradesh. His father, Kaviraj, sustained serious injuries in the crash and is undergoing treatment, according to police.
Police said the father and son were travelling by motorcycle from Faizpur towards Anjala at around 7pm when a truck allegedly travelling on the wrong side of the road collided with their vehicle. Lalit suffered fatal injuries. The motorcycle was also badly damaged in the accident.
The truck driver allegedly fled the scene without informing the authorities or assisting the injured victims. The case was registered at Faizpur police station following a complaint filed by the injured man’s brother-in-law.
The complaint alleged that road construction work was being carried out without adequate precautions, safety arrangements or warning signs. It claimed that the conditions created by the work contributed to the hazardous situation on the road. These allegations will be examined as part of the police investigation and have not been established by a court.
Police have registered the case under Section 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, relating to causing death by negligence, along with other relevant provisions. The case names the road construction company owner, the road engineer and the truck driver. The report does not specify whether any arrests have been made or identify the construction company.
The incident highlights the immediate safety responsibilities involved when road construction continues alongside regular traffic. Warning signs, traffic control and precautions at work zones are intended to alert road users to changing lanes, restricted movement and construction hazards. In this case, police are examining whether the alleged absence of such measures contributed to the fatal crash.
The investigation will also establish the circumstances in which the truck entered the wrong side of the road, the actions of its driver after the collision and the role, if any, of the construction company and its engineer in maintaining safety at the work site. The injured father remains under treatment, while the police case proceeds on the complaint filed by his relative.
