Jaldapara safari booking has moved online, allowing visitors to reserve wildlife safaris up to one month in advance as North Bengal prepares for the Durga Puja travel season. The facility, which began on Wednesday, is intended to make access to Jaldapara National Park more predictable during a period when tourist demand is expected to rise.
Divisional Forest Officer Parveen Kaswan said 912 safari seats would be available every day across five tourist routes: Salkumar, Madarihat, Lankapara, Chilapata and Kodalbasti. A further 48 seats for elephant rides will also be available for advance online booking.
The booking system gives visitors the option to plan their trips before arriving at the national park, choose from the available routes and schedule their safari in advance. Until now, travellers planning visits during busy periods could face greater dependence on last-minute arrangements, particularly when demand rises around the festive season.
Jaldapara National Park is one of North Bengal’s major wildlife tourism destinations and is known for its biodiversity and population of one-horned rhinoceroses. The park attracts visitors seeking wildlife experiences as well as tourists travelling through the region towards Bhutan.
The online system could also affect the wider tourism network around the park. Hotels, homestays, tour operators and transport providers may be able to plan their services more effectively when visitors confirm their safari dates earlier. The region’s tourism economy supports a range of local livelihoods connected to accommodation, travel, guiding and visitor services.
The facility may be particularly relevant to international tourists entering the region through the nearby Jaigaon border. Travellers crossing towards Bhutan could include Jaldapara in their itineraries more easily if safari availability can be checked and secured before their journey.
The introduction of advance booking also shifts an important part of the visitor experience from arrival-time arrangements to pre-trip planning. For tourists travelling with fixed itineraries, families or limited time, confirmed access to a safari may reduce uncertainty around scheduling their visit.
The scale of the facility will be defined by the daily capacity announced by the forest department: 912 safari seats across five routes and 48 elephant-riding seats. The online service is now available for visitors planning trips to Jaldapara during Durga Puja and subsequent travel periods, with bookings permitted up to one month ahead.
