Jaipur Cleanliness Drive Clears 113 Tonnes of Waste in One Day

Jaipur Municipal Corporation mayor Sunil Kothari has launched a ward-wise cleanliness drive ahead of Diwali, with civic teams clearing 78 tonnes of garbage and more than 35 tonnes of construction and demolition waste from Ward 112 on the campaign’s first day.

The drive, titled ‘Ward-wise Swachhata Utsav’, began at 7am from Badi Chaupar on Thursday. Kothari administered a cleanliness pledge to sanitation workers, participated in sweeping activities and later inspected sanitation arrangements in different wards, according to the Times of India.

The first-day clearance total included both routine municipal waste and C&D waste, which often accumulates separately from household refuse and requires different handling equipment. The figures indicate the scale of the immediate cleanup undertaken in the selected ward, although the report does not provide a breakdown of the locations from which the waste was removed or its final disposal destination.

The Jaipur Municipal Corporation plans to continue the campaign ward by ward across all zones until Diwali. Under the deployment plan, at least 50% of the sanitation workforce and available mechanical resources in each zone will be assigned to the selected ward during its scheduled cleanup.

The resources listed for the campaign include 20 hoppers for door-to-door waste collection, 200 sanitation workers, three JCB machines and eight tractors, along with other machinery. The arrangement combines household collection with mechanical clearance and street-level sanitation operations.

Kothari said the objective was not limited to sweeping roads but also included making public spaces “completely organised and clean”. The statement places the campaign beyond a single-day removal exercise, although the supplied report does not specify a separate monitoring system, post-drive inspection schedule or ward-wise performance targets.

The focus on Ward 112 on the opening day also reflects a ward-based model of municipal deployment, in which a large share of a zone’s available personnel and equipment is concentrated in one location for intensive cleaning. Such a model can allow a civic body to address accumulated waste quickly, while requiring continued collection and maintenance to prevent the cleared areas from deteriorating again.

The inclusion of construction and demolition waste is significant for municipal operations because it is distinct from everyday household garbage. The report identifies more than 35 tonnes of C&D waste cleared on the first day but does not state whether the material was segregated, recycled or transported to a designated processing facility.

The campaign will continue in other wards and zones until Diwali. The Jaipur Municipal Corporation’s next operational milestone will be the ward-wise rollout of sanitation workers, hoppers, tractors, JCB machines and other available equipment across the city.
