A police case has been registered in Maharashtra’s Pune district after Jaidwadi sarpanch Sheetal Vikas Jaid alleged that fabricated videos of her and her family were circulated on social media, followed by a demand for ₹10 lakh and threats to kill her husband.
The complaint was filed at Khed police station by Sheetal Jaid against Anandraje Indumati Patil, a resident of Pargaon in Khed taluka, according to a report by Pudhari. The allegations relate to the circulation of videos that the complainant said were created using artificial intelligence and used to defame her family.
According to the complaint, Patil allegedly began creating and sharing the videos from 18 June 2026. The videos were reportedly sent to village groups and to Sheetal Jaid’s husband, Vikas Kacharu Jaid, who runs a hotel business. The complaint also alleges that the social media activity disrupted government work connected with village development.
The family initially ignored the posts, the complaint stated. The allegation escalated on 5 October, when a voice message was allegedly sent to Vikas Jaid’s mobile phone at around 5.57 am. In the message, the sender allegedly demanded ₹10 lakh and said that the posts would be deleted if the money was paid, while warning that additional posts would be circulated otherwise.
The complaint further alleged that another voice message was sent on 13 October at around 10.54 pm. In that message, the sender allegedly threatened to kill Vikas Jaid and claimed to possess a weapon. The complaint also stated that fabricated videos continued to be circulated on social media.
Sheetal Jaid has served as the sarpanch of Jaidwadi gram panchayat since 2015, according to the report. The alleged misuse of manipulated digital content has therefore been linked in the complaint not only to personal defamation but also to the functioning of the village administration.
Khed police registered the case on Thursday, 15 October. Police inspector Subhash Chavan confirmed that an offence had been registered against the accused. The report did not provide details of any arrest, recovery of digital evidence or further police action.
