The first phase of Telangana’s Indiramma housing programme will be completed and handed over to beneficiaries by the next Dasara, IT and Industries Minister and Ranga Reddy district in-charge Minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu said at a foundation-laying ceremony in Pocharam, near Hyderabad.
The minister was speaking on Wednesday at the ceremony for Indiramma houses sanctioned to 480 beneficiaries in Pocharam, in Ghatkesar mandal. He said the government would ensure that the delays associated with house construction under the previous government were not repeated and that poor families received permanent homes within the stipulated timeframe.
Sridhar Babu also assured beneficiaries that essential infrastructure would be provided alongside the housing. This would include roads, drinking water facilities and lifts for the Indiramma Towers. Revenue and Housing Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy, local MP Eatala Rajender, Medchal MLA Mallareddy and MLC Patnam Mahender Reddy attended the programme.
The minister said the government was constructing Indiramma houses within the respective constituencies of eligible beneficiaries. According to him, this approach would allow homeless families to secure homes in their own areas instead of being moved away from their existing social and local networks.
Sridhar Babu highlighted the land value in the Pocharam area while describing the housing support. He said a single-bedroom flat in the locality could cost around ₹40 lakh, whereas eligible beneficiaries would receive homes of considerable value after contributing ₹6 lakh. The minister presented the programme as a way of helping poor households build a permanent asset in a location where property prices are high.
He said beneficiary selection was being conducted through a lottery system, which the government described as transparent and free from human intervention. The stated purpose of the system is to ensure fairness in identifying eligible recipients for the housing programme.
The first phase of the Indiramma housing programme has a target of 25 lakh houses across Telangana, the minister said. The government plans to provide homes to every eligible homeless family in phases, with Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and Housing Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy treating the programme as a major welfare priority.
The announcement places the delivery schedule and supporting infrastructure at the centre of the programme’s implementation. For the 480 beneficiaries in Pocharam, the next milestone is completion and handover of the sanctioned houses by the next Dasara, along with the promised roads, drinking water facilities and lifts.
