Mumbai experienced heavy rainfall on June 16, 2025, leading to significant disruptions in air travel and local transportation. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a yellow alert for the city, forecasting continued adverse weather conditions. IndiGo Airlines issued a travel advisory warning passengers of potential delays due to the heavy downpour.
The airline advised travelers to allow additional time for their journey, especially with slower-than-usual traffic. Passengers were encouraged to check flight statuses on the airline’s website or mobile app before heading to the airport. The IMD reported that the Northern Limit of Monsoon continues to pass through Mumbai, indicating that conditions are favorable for further advancement of the Southwest monsoon over parts of Gujarat, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, and Odisha in the next 24 hours.
The department also noted that the monsoon is expected to progress over parts of West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar, and East Uttar Pradesh in the subsequent three days. The heavy rainfall led to waterlogging in several parts of Mumbai, including the Sanpada Underpass in Navi Mumbai. These conditions caused slow-moving traffic and congestion, affecting commuters’ travel times. The IMD’s orange alert for the Konkan region, including Mumbai, indicates the potential for extremely heavy rainfall, which could exacerbate these issues.
Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and avoid unnecessary travel during adverse weather conditions. Commuters are advised to plan their journeys in advance, allow extra time for travel, and stay updated on weather forecasts and traffic conditions.
