The mandatory installation of panic buttons and GPS-enabled tracking systems was originally introduced as a passenger safety measure, especially for long-distance and public transport vehicles. However, industry groups contend that uneven implementation costs risk undermining acceptance of safety-linked reforms. They are urging regulators to establish benchmark pricing frameworks similar to those adopted in neighbouring states where rates are publicly disclosed.
