Hyundai Motor Group has unveiled a ₹1.47 lakh crore investment plan for India between 2026 and 2032, targeting manufacturing capacity, research and development, electric vehicles, future technologies and the wider automotive ecosystem. The announcement places India at the centre of the group’s expansion strategy for emerging markets and next-generation mobility.
The plan was discussed during a meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Hyundai Motor Group Executive Chair Euisun Chung, the company said. Chung described India as one of the group’s most important strategic markets globally and said the investment reaffirmed its commitment to the country for the next 30 years and beyond.
The proposed outlay includes the ₹45,000-crore investment announced by Hyundai Motor Company last October through 2030, according to sources cited by The Hindu BusinessLine. The expanded commitment also covers Kia India, particularly in research and development, and follows the group’s earlier plan to introduce 26 new products, including hybrid and electric vehicles.
Hyundai Motor Group said it will establish a dedicated investment entity in India to execute projects across R&D infrastructure, future technologies and the broader automotive industry. The entity will also identify local partners, support strategic partnerships and strengthen collaboration with local suppliers.
Manufacturing capacity at Hyundai Motor India and Kia India is expected to be expanded to support higher volumes while increasing localisation. The company did not disclose a plant-wise investment split, project-wise construction schedule or the number of jobs expected to be created under the overall plan.
A major component of the commitment is a $700-million investment in the group’s R&D centre in India, including a vehicle testing track. The group said the facility is intended to strengthen India’s role as a core innovation hub. The announcement did not specify the location, commissioning schedule or capacity of the planned testing infrastructure.
The investment plan also extends beyond vehicle production. Hyundai Motor Group said it will explore new business verticals in specialised automotive financing, electric-vehicle charging infrastructure and end-of-life vehicle recycling. These areas connect the manufacturing expansion to the infrastructure and services required for a larger electric-mobility market.
Chung said the investment would create more employment opportunities and support India’s industrial development through cooperation with partners and stakeholders. The company has not yet provided a detailed implementation calendar or identified the specific Indian cities and facilities that will receive the proposed investments.
The group is expected to use the dedicated investment entity to coordinate future projects, local partnerships and supplier participation as the 2026-2032 investment programme is executed.
