Hyundai Hyderabad investment plans gained fresh momentum after Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy invited Hyundai Motor India to consider the state for a car manufacturing facility during a meeting with senior company representatives on Friday. The meeting also reviewed progress on Hyundai Motor India Engineering’s proposed integrated global research and development facility at Zaheerabad.
A delegation from Hyundai Motor India Engineering, led by Managing Director Chang Yeon Cho, met Reddy in Hyderabad. The Chief Minister said Telangana was ready to provide support for manufacturing investments and presented Hyderabad as a centrally located, cosmopolitan and safe metropolitan region.
The immediate project discussed was the HMIE Integrated Global R&D facility at the National Investment and Manufacturing Zone in Zaheerabad. According to a press release, the project involves an investment of Rs 8,528 crore and is expected to create 4,276 jobs. It will be developed in phases across 678 acres.
The Hyundai team told the Chief Minister that the site could be ready for groundbreaking in the next few months, the release said. Reddy assured the company’s leadership of support to expedite the project, which is expected to expand Hyundai India’s engineering capabilities in Telangana.
The Zaheerabad facility is planned as an R&D and mega test centre for testing, validating and improving vehicle engineering processes. Hyundai already has a presence in Hyderabad dating back two decades, including a facility at Hitec City that the company describes as a major research and development centre supporting advanced vehicle engineering.
The proposed investment follows a series of engagements between the company and the Telangana government. A state delegation led by Reddy met Hyundai officials during the World Economic Forum meeting in 2024 to seek investments in the state. In June 2025, the Telangana cabinet sub-committee on industrial and investment promotion approved Hyundai’s proposal to establish the R&D centre.
Reddy’s latest pitch for a car manufacturing plant linked the proposal to Telangana’s road, air and rail infrastructure, dedicated mobility clusters and proposed high-speed connectivity with ports. The Chief Minister also referred to the state’s Peri-Urban Region Economy framework, known as PURE, which the government has positioned as a spatial framework for manufacturing-led growth.
The manufacturing pitch extends beyond the Zaheerabad R&D project, whose investment and employment commitments were specified in the press release. The material supplied did not provide a confirmed investment figure, location, production capacity or timeline for a separate Hyundai car manufacturing plant in Telangana.
Reddy also invited Hyundai’s leadership to the Invest Telangana Global Summit 2026, scheduled for December. He presented the proposed Bharat Future City on the outskirts of Hyderabad as part of the state’s wider plan to develop a satellite city. Cho said Hyundai’s plans to strengthen Hyderabad as a global technology and advanced engineering hub complemented the Telangana Rising 2047 vision, according to the release.
