Hyderabad’s Attapur Substation Adds Eight Feeders to Power Network

Attapur substation supporting Hyderabad’s electricity distribution network

Hyderabad’s Attapur substation has been brought into service after the Telangana Southern Power Distribution Company Limited commissioned the 33/11 kV facility at a cost of Rs.14.38 crore, adding eight 11 kV feeders to the local electricity distribution network.

The substation was technically charged and placed into service in the Mir Alam Sub-Division of the Charminar Division, under TGSPDCL’s Hyderabad South Circle. The utility has described it as Hyderabad’s first unmanned substation.

TGSPDCL said the facility is expected to improve the quality and reliability of electricity supply for consumers in and around Attapur. Its eight feeders will strengthen the local distribution network and support electricity services across residential, institutional and commercial areas.

The areas identified as beneficiaries include Attapur Village, Tejaswi Nagar, Ratan Nagar, Attapur Reddy Basti, Panduranga Nagar, Rambagh, Weaker Section Colony, Vasudev Reddy Nagar, Khajanagar and Bharath Nagar. The coverage also includes Hyderguda, Laxmi Nagar, Kantha Reddy Nagar, New Friends Colony, CBIT Colony and NM Guda.

The new facility will also serve the HMWSSB STP Attapur HT Service Plant and commercial establishments along the PVNR Flyover Main Road. Areas around PVNR Flyover Pillar No. 143 have also been listed among the locations expected to benefit from the substation.

The project is significant for the local distribution system because a substation receives electricity at a higher voltage, converts it to a lower distribution voltage and routes supply through feeder lines to downstream consumers. In this case, the facility will distribute power through eight 11 kV feeders, giving TGSPDCL additional local network capacity in the Attapur and surrounding areas.

The facility’s unmanned design also marks a change in how the distribution asset will be operated, although the report does not provide details on the technology, monitoring systems or staffing arrangements supporting its operation. It also does not specify the expected reduction in outages, the number of consumers to be connected or the commissioning timeline for individual feeders.

TGSPDCL said the substation forms part of its continuing focus on modernising the electricity distribution network. The utility said it remains committed to delivering quality, reliable and efficient power supply to consumers. The next operational milestone will be the facility’s performance as the eight feeders serve the listed neighbourhoods and installations.
