The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) has fined Anaganaga hotel in Jubilee Hills Rs 20,000 for wasting water while cleaning its premises, after board managing director K. Ashok Reddy observed the activity during a visit to the area.
The hotel is located on Road Number 45 in Jubilee Hills. According to the report, Ashok Reddy noticed water being used wastefully for cleaning the premises and directed HMWS&SB officials to issue a notice to the management and impose a penalty.
Officials subsequently collected the Rs 20,000 fine from the hotel in accordance with the managing director’s instructions. The action places commercial water use under closer civic scrutiny, particularly where treated water is used for cleaning areas that could potentially require more controlled consumption.
Ashok Reddy said water resources were valuable natural assets and should not be used indiscriminately. He also said that protecting water resources was the responsibility of everyone, including residents, businesses and other users connected to the city’s water system.
The managing director advised people to avoid excessive use of water for cleaning premises and roads. His warning covered the misuse and wastage of water resources, including drinking water supplied through the urban water network.
The board said action would be taken under the rules if it finds that water resources are being misused or wasted. The fine against Anaganaga hotel is therefore both a completed enforcement action and a warning to other water users in Hyderabad about the consequences of excessive consumption.
The report did not specify the volume of water wasted, the particular rule applied, or whether the hotel had received any earlier warning. HMWS&SB’s stated next step is to continue taking action in cases where water wastage or misuse is detected.
