Hyderabad Secures Liverpool Partnerships in Health and Innovation

Hyderabad Liverpool partnership delegation meeting focused on innovation and healthcare cooperation

Hyderabad has secured a set of institutional partnerships with Liverpool covering healthcare, life sciences, innovation, skills, investment and sports following a three-day visit by a high-level delegation from the United Kingdom city that concluded on Wednesday.

The most significant development was a memorandum of understanding signed between the Telangana government and Liverpool City Council on Tuesday. The agreement establishes a framework for long-term cooperation in trade, investment, innovation, entrepreneurship, skills, tourism, culture and sports.

The partnership links Hyderabad’s state-led investment and innovation ecosystem with Liverpool’s institutions across several sectors. According to the report, the delegation visited Genome Valley and held discussions with industry and research organisations on possible cooperation in biopharma, vaccines, medical technology, clinical research, education and workforce development.

A separate Letter of Intent was signed by T-Hub and Knowledge Quarter Liverpool/Sciontec to establish the Hyderabad–Liverpool Innovation Bridge. The proposed platform is intended to connect startups in both cities, support market access and foster business partnerships. The report did not specify an operating timeline, funding commitment or the number of companies expected to participate.

Healthcare cooperation also advanced during the visit. KIMS and NHS University Hospitals Liverpool Group moved towards an agreement covering research, clinical collaboration, education, training and workforce development. The arrangement places medical institutions from both cities at the centre of potential cooperation in clinical knowledge and professional development, although specific projects were not announced.

The delegation’s programme extended beyond life sciences and technology. Representatives engaged with the LFC Foundation, the Sports Authority of Telangana, the FIFA–AIFF Telangana Talent Academy in Gachibowli, football clubs, coaches, the Centre for Spine and Sports Health and the Pullela Gopichand Badminton Academy. Discussions explored grassroots sports, sports medicine, athlete development and high-performance sports.

The visit is part of a wider effort to build institutional links between Telangana and Liverpool. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy reiterated the state’s commitment to attracting investment and strengthening global partnerships in research and innovation. Jayesh Ranjan, Special Chief Secretary, said the two regions had complementary strengths and scope for institutional partnerships.

For Hyderabad, the agreements bring together several parts of the city’s urban economy: Genome Valley’s life-sciences cluster, T-Hub’s startup network, hospitals, universities, sports facilities and workforce-development institutions. Their practical significance will depend on whether the initial agreements lead to defined programmes, investment flows, research collaborations, training opportunities and measurable access for companies and institutions.

The engagement builds on the Chief Minister’s visit to the United Kingdom in August 2026. The Telangana government and its partner institutions are now expected to develop the cooperation framework across investment, innovation, healthcare, skills, tourism, culture and sports.
