Hyderabad, Liverpool Sign MoU to Deepen Global Innovation Ties

Hyderabad Liverpool partnership delegation meeting at a life sciences or innovation campus

Hyderabad and Liverpool have agreed to deepen cooperation in life sciences, healthcare, innovation, skills, investment, tourism, culture and sports after a high-level delegation from the UK city concluded a three-day visit to Telangana on Wednesday.

The partnership was formalised through a memorandum of understanding signed between the Telangana government and Liverpool City Council on Tuesday. The MoU establishes a framework for long-term collaboration across trade, investment, innovation, entrepreneurship, skills development, tourism, culture and sports, according to Deccan Chronicle.

The delegation’s visit included engagements with Genome Valley, Hyderabad’s life sciences cluster, where members met industry and research organisations. Discussions explored cooperation in biopharmaceuticals, vaccines, medical technology, clinical research, education and workforce development.

The visit also produced an innovation-focused agreement between T-Hub and Knowledge Quarter Liverpool/Sciontec. The two organisations signed a Letter of Intent to establish the Hyderabad–Liverpool Innovation Bridge, intended to connect startups in both locations, support market access and develop business partnerships.

The proposed bridge is expected to create a formal channel between the two innovation ecosystems. The source report did not specify the number of startups involved, the funding structure, the implementation timeline or the nature of any financial commitments under the Letter of Intent.

Healthcare cooperation was another major component of the visit. KIMS and NHS University Hospitals Liverpool Group advanced an agreement covering research, clinical collaboration, education, training and workforce development. The supplied report did not state whether the agreement has been formally signed or identify specific clinical programmes.

The delegation also held meetings linked to sports and athlete development. Its engagements included the LFC Foundation, the Sports Authority of Telangana, the FIFA–AIFF Telangana Talent Academy at Gachibowli, football clubs, coaches, the Centre for Spine and Sports Health and the Pullela Gopichand Badminton Academy. Areas discussed included grassroots sports, sports medicine, athlete development and high-performance sports.

The range of institutions involved places the partnership across several parts of Hyderabad’s urban economy: research and industrial clusters, startup support, hospitals and universities, skills development and sports infrastructure. The agreements also bring together municipal government, state administration, healthcare providers, innovation organisations and sports institutions.

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy reiterated the state’s commitment to attracting investment and strengthening international research and innovation partnerships. Jayesh Ranjan, Special Chief Secretary, said the two regions had complementary strengths and potential for institutional partnerships, according to the report.

The visit follows the Chief Minister’s visit to the United Kingdom in August 2026. The latest engagements are intended to build on that visit and create opportunities in investment, innovation, employment, skills development and economic growth. The next stage will depend on how the MoU, Letter of Intent and healthcare cooperation are converted into operational programmes and measurable partnerships.
