A Hyderabad flyover accident killed scooter rider Prakash Pawar after an iron rod being transported on a trolley auto fell on him near Fatehnagar on the Balanagar Flyover on Thursday, police said. The trolley auto driver, identified as Nayeem Pasha, was arrested for alleged negligence.
According to Balanagar Inspector G. Prashant, Pasha had purchased the iron rods from a steel shop in Balanagar and was transporting them to Ranigunj. The incident occurred when the trolley auto was taking a U-turn near Fatehnagar on the flyover.
One of the rods suddenly fell from the vehicle and struck Pawar, who was travelling on a scooter. He sustained severe injuries and died at the spot, according to the police account reported by Deccan Chronicle.
Pawar was a resident of Sanjay Gandhi Nagar in Shapur. The incident brought attention to the risks created when long or heavy materials are transported on small commercial vehicles along busy urban roads and flyovers. In this case, the material was being moved between Balanagar and Ranigunj when the fatal incident occurred.
Police reached the location after receiving information about the crash. The body was shifted to Gandhi Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
The arrest of the driver was made in connection with alleged negligence. The police account identifies the vehicle, the material being transported, the route between the two commercial areas and the turn near which the rod fell. It does not state whether the rods were secured using restraints or whether any additional enforcement action was taken against the vehicle owner or the steel shop.
The incident also places attention on the interaction between freight movement and two-wheeler traffic on elevated road infrastructure. Trolley autos are used to move construction and industrial materials through Hyderabad, while flyovers and their turning points bring commercial vehicles into close proximity with smaller road users. The fatality occurred at that point of interaction, according to the police.
Further details of the police case, including the specific sections invoked and the findings of the post-mortem examination, were not provided in the source report. The immediate official step recorded is the arrest of Nayeem Pasha and the transfer of Pawar’s body to Gandhi Hospital for examination.
