Hyderabad’s new common pass for Metro Rail and Telangana State Road Transport Corporation buses received a public demonstration on October 3, when Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and fellow Ministers travelled across the city using the integrated ticketing facility.
Mr. Vikramarka, accompanied by Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, Ministers Vivek Venkataswamy and Mohammed Azharuddin, MP Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy, MLAs Ganesh and Naveen Yadav, and senior officials, travelled from Begumpet Metro Station to Jubilee Hills Check Post by Metro Rail. They then boarded a TGSRTC bus and continued to the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Telangana Secretariat.
The journey took place a day after the State government launched the Hyderabad Metro Rail–TGSRTC common pass. The system allows commuters to use Metro and bus services with a single pass, removing the need to purchase separate tickets for the two modes.
During the Metro and bus journeys, the Ministers interacted with passengers and collected feedback on the convenience and effectiveness of the new arrangement. Commuters told the delegation that the common pass simplified travel, improved last-mile connectivity and reduced confusion over bus routes after leaving Metro stations.
Mr. Vikramarka said the facility would reduce travel hassles and enable smoother transfers between Metro and bus services. He said women commuters and regular Metro users had expressed satisfaction with the system, which is intended to make journeys between homes, workplaces and other destinations easier.
The Deputy Chief Minister said the government’s wider objective was to create an integrated public transport network across Hyderabad. The government is also examining the possible future integration of other transport modes, including auto-rickshaws and app-based mobility services, although no implementation timeline for those links was provided.
Mr. Prabhakar said the common pass would save passengers time, effort and money while strengthening the city’s public transport system. He also linked improved public transport to efforts to address growing traffic congestion and encourage a shift from private vehicles to mass transit. Daily and monthly passes have already been introduced, and officials said the common pass would be improved based on passenger feedback.
