Haldia investment has crossed ₹6,000 crore, with West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari announcing plans for a new Pepsi plant, a medical equipment factory and a trauma centre for industrial workers. The announcements were made in Haldia on Wednesday, as the state presented the industrial town as a growing centre for manufacturing and employment.

Adhikari said a further ₹10,000 crore of investment was planned for Haldia and that more industries would come to the state. The announcements included projects across food and beverage manufacturing, medical equipment and petrochemicals, although the report did not specify the total value assigned to each individual project.

The Haldia Development Authority has provided 98 acres of land for the new Pepsi plant, according to the report. A separate medical equipment manufacturing facility is planned on 50 acres. The report did not provide details of the proposed factory’s production capacity, investment value, construction schedule or expected workforce.

The day’s principal industrial event was the inauguration of a new phenol and acetone production facility at Haldia. The plant has been established by Adperma Private Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Haldia Petrochemicals Limited. The report said the investment is expected to generate direct and indirect employment in Haldia, but did not provide an official estimate of the number of jobs.

Haldia’s industrial base makes land, logistics, worker safety and supporting public infrastructure central to the impact of these projects. The latest announcements indicate that the proposed expansion will involve both large industrial land parcels and manufacturing facilities linked to established companies. However, the source report does not include project completion dates, environmental clearances, financing details or information on associated road, port, power and water requirements.

Adhikari also announced that a trauma centre for workers in Haldia would be inaugurated in June 2027. The facility is intended to improve access to emergency medical care for industrial workers, although the report did not provide details about its location, planned capacity, operating agency or construction status.

The chief minister additionally called for Bengal to become less dependent on welfare payments and more self-reliant through industrial growth. The report noted that several welfare schemes, including Ayushman Yojana and widow pensions, remain operational in the state. The immediate implementation milestones for the new factories and the trauma centre were not specified beyond the planned June 2027 inauguration.
