Gujarat Schools Face Two-Day Deadline to Fix Data Mismatches

Gujarat schools have been given two days to correct mismatches between the CTS and UDISE+ portals, after the state education department found inconsistencies in student enrolment, staff numbers and employee designations. The directive applies to all non-government aided secondary and higher secondary schools across the state and covers records for the 2026-27 academic year.

According to a circular issued by the commissionerate of schools, UDISE+ data will serve as the primary basis for decisions involving government schemes, financial matters and administrative issues. The same data will also be used to determine the sanctioned strength of non-teaching staff, including clerks.

The verification exercise carried out by the commissionerate and district education offices found discrepancies between information recorded on the CTS and UDISE+ portals. The differences relate to student enrolment, the number of teaching and non-teaching staff, and the designations recorded against employees’ names.

Schools have been instructed to verify their records and ensure that the information on both portals is consistent. Student enrolment figures recorded on CTS and UDISE+ must match exactly. Institutions must also update details of teaching and non-teaching staff, including clerks, on UDISE+ in accordance with the information available on CTS.

The department has directed schools to accurately update the designations of all employees currently working at the institutions and ensure that the entries comply with applicable rules. The two-day deadline has been set because of the urgency attached to completing the data correction exercise before further verification.

The district education officers of Ahmedabad City East and Ahmedabad City West have warned that the commissioner’s office in Gandhinagar will conduct another verification of the records in the coming days. If errors or discrepancies are found during that exercise, the concerned school principal and management will be held responsible.

Education inspectors have also been instructed to monitor the process continuously and ensure that schools complete the corrections within the prescribed deadline. The department’s directive makes the accuracy of institutional data an immediate administrative responsibility for school managements, while placing UDISE+ at the centre of future decisions on schemes, finances and staffing.
