The Gujarat government is developing an Ayodhya Yatri Niwas at a reported cost of ₹80.25 crore to provide accommodation and visitor facilities for pilgrims and travellers from the state. The complex is planned on 6,929.28 square metres of land in an under-construction township in Ayodhya and is expected to open within a year, according to Gujarat Samachar – Ahmedabad.
The project is being developed through the Tourism Corporation of Gujarat Ltd (TCGL). Its stated capacity includes 308 beds across different types of rooms and a large hall with seating for 864 people. The facility is intended to serve visitors travelling from Gujarat to Ayodhya for religious tourism.
According to the report, the planned complex will include a reception centre, visitor lounge, souvenir shop, multipurpose hall, auditorium, meeting room and a large dining area. The design also includes a terrace garden, digital displays and landscaped outdoor areas.
The project reflects the growing role of purpose-built visitor infrastructure around major pilgrimage destinations. Rather than relying only on existing hotels and temporary arrangements, the proposed facility is designed as a dedicated accommodation and community-use complex linked to Gujarat’s tourism administration.
The available report does not provide details on the project’s tendering process, construction contractor, operating model, room tariffs or the source-wise financing of the ₹80.25 crore cost. It also does not specify whether the accommodation will be reserved exclusively for visitors from Gujarat or whether access will be opened to a wider group of pilgrims.
The scale of the facility places operational questions alongside its construction programme. A 308-bed accommodation block and an 864-seat hall will require arrangements for visitor registration, food services, sanitation, security, maintenance and crowd management. These systems will determine how the complex functions during peak pilgrimage periods, although the report does not provide details of the proposed operating framework.
Gujarat Samachar reported that construction work has already begun and that the complex is expected to be made fully available to pilgrims over the next year. The report described the project as an initiative intended to strengthen the cultural and religious connection between Gujarat and Ayodhya.
