Karnataka’s Energy Department has extended the deadline for verifying documents of Gruha Jyothi beneficiaries to October 31, giving households that were locked or unable to provide information during earlier visits another opportunity to complete the process.
The department issued the order after electricity supply company staff reported difficulties during door-to-door verification. In some cases, homeowners or tenants refused to provide the required information, while in others the houses were found locked when staff members visited.
The verification exercise began on July 1 and was originally scheduled to be completed by August 31. The deadline was subsequently extended to September 30. The latest extension is intended to allow electricity supply company personnel to revisit households where verification could not be completed during the earlier rounds.
According to the order, officials have details of households where homes were locked or where residents declined to share information during the first visit. These beneficiaries will be given another opportunity to provide the required details during the extended period.
Electricity supply company staff are visiting homes to verify documents and collect information from Gruha Jyothi beneficiaries. The documents being checked include Aadhaar, voter identity cards and ration cards, according to the Energy Department’s instructions.
The department has asked beneficiaries to cooperate fully with the verification process when staff members visit their homes. The exercise is being carried out through the state’s electricity supply companies, which are responsible for contacting households and recording the required information.
The extension is particularly relevant for beneficiaries who were away when officials arrived, could not open their homes, or did not share information during the initial visit. The department’s order indicates that these cases will not be closed immediately and that the affected households will receive another chance to complete verification before the new deadline.
The Gruha Jyothi scheme has made beneficiary documentation a key part of the electricity administration process. The latest order links the continuation of verification activity to the practical difficulty of reaching households through door-to-door visits. For residents covered by the exercise, the immediate requirement is to provide the requested identity or household documents when electricity supply company staff return.
The Energy Department has not indicated any further extension in the order reported by Prajavani. Beneficiaries whose homes were locked or who could not provide information during earlier visits have been asked to use the period until October 31 to complete the verification.
