Goregaon traffic restrictions have come into effect on a slip road near the Veer Savarkar Flyover in Goregaon West to facilitate pillar construction for the Mumbai Coastal Road Project’s North Package B. The closure, announced by Mumbai Police on October 9, will remain in place until November 9, 2026.
According to a traffic notification issued by Deputy Commissioner of Police, Traffic, Western Suburbs, Ajit Borhade, vehicles will not be allowed to use the slip road connecting Vasari Hill Junction towards MTNL Junction on Swami Vivekanand Road during the construction period.
The restriction has been imposed to enable excavation and construction work for 52 pillars along a 1,500-metre stretch. The work forms part of a broader section extending from Mind Space and MDP Creek Road, also known as Back Road, towards Veer Savarkar Garden and Inorbit Mall Junction, and onward to the Veer Savarkar Flyover on SV Road.
The closure is intended to provide space for construction activity and improve safety for motorists and workers at the site. The notification also sets out diversion arrangements for vehicles travelling through Goregaon West, where the affected slip road is used to connect key junctions and local destinations.
Traffic travelling from Inorbit Mall Junction through Vasari Hill Road towards Goregaon East will not be affected by the restriction. Motorists on this route can continue to use the Veer Savarkar Flyover as usual.
Vehicles travelling from Inorbit Mall Junction towards MTNL Junction or SV Road must turn left at Vasari Hill Junction, near EazeZone Mall. They have been directed to pass D G Khetan International School and use Sundar Nagar Road to reach their destinations.
The notification has been issued under Section 115 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, and Rule 59 of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989. These provisions allow traffic authorities to regulate or restrict vehicle movement when required for road works, public safety or traffic management.
The temporary closure adds a construction-related restriction to a busy western suburban road network that connects Goregaon West with local commercial areas, residential neighbourhoods and routes towards Goregaon East. The police have asked motorists to follow directional signboards and instructions from traffic personnel deployed in the area.
Commuters have also been advised to use the designated alternative routes and plan their journeys in advance to minimise delays. The restriction will remain operational until November 9, when the notified period for the pillar-related excavation and construction work is scheduled to end.
