GMR Aero Technic Expands Hyderabad’s Aircraft Modification Push

GMR Aero Technic aircraft maintenance facility supporting aircraft modification in Hyderabad

GMR Aero Technic has signed a memorandum of understanding with Canada-based Corporation Logic Air Inc. to collaborate on aircraft modification, engineering, certification and obsolescence solutions for operators in India and international markets, strengthening Hyderabad’s role in specialised aviation maintenance services.

The partnership will target airlines, aircraft lessors and cargo operators, according to the announcement reported by Telangana Today. The companies plan to develop turnkey aircraft modification solutions that can be incorporated during planned maintenance events, aircraft redelivery programmes and transition checks.

The agreement covers collaboration on the validation, adaptation and embodiment of eligible Logic Air supplemental type certificates and modification data. Supplemental type certificates are used to approve changes to an aircraft design, allowing modifications to be incorporated in accordance with aviation certification requirements.

The companies said the collaboration would focus on opportunities in India as well as the Middle East and Asia-Pacific. The arrangement is intended to support operators that require aircraft changes or upgrades during scheduled maintenance and aircraft transition processes, rather than treating modification work as a separate activity after those events.

For GMR Aero Technic, the agreement adds an international partner to its aircraft maintenance and engineering activities in Hyderabad. Logic Air is described as a Canada-based aircraft modification, certification and maintenance organisation. The two companies will jointly pursue opportunities involving airlines, lessors and cargo operators.

The partnership will also seek to strengthen local capabilities in aircraft modification installation, training, sustainment and through-life support in India. These activities cover the practical stages of implementing approved modifications and supporting them over the operating life of an aircraft.

The announcement does not disclose the number of aircraft covered, the value of the partnership, planned investment, employment targets or a project-specific implementation timeline. It also does not identify any airline, lessor or cargo operator that has signed on to a particular modification programme.

Instead, the companies will develop commercial arrangements for individual engagements. This means that the immediate agreement establishes a framework for pursuing and delivering future projects, while the scope and terms of each assignment will be determined separately.

The proposed cooperation reflects the increasingly specialised nature of aircraft maintenance, where operators require engineering, certification, installation and post-modification support within coordinated maintenance and fleet-transition schedules. For India, the local availability of these capabilities can reduce the need to separate engineering, certification and installation activities across different locations, although the announcement does not quantify any such operational effect.

The next stage will involve identifying eligible modification opportunities with airlines, lessors and cargo operators in India and overseas markets. Project-specific commercial arrangements will be developed by GMR Aero Technic and Logic Air for individual engagements.
