A live high-tension wire that snapped and fell into a field in Bhovapur village near Ghaziabad killed two women and seriously injured an 18-year-old girl on Tuesday morning, according to officials quoted by Millennium Post – Delhi. The three had gone to collect radishes when they came into contact with the wire.
The incident occurred at around 6.30 am in the area under Nandgram police station. Officials said the wire was lying on the ground after breaking from the overhead electricity network. Ruby and Satyawati died at the spot, while Devshree suffered serious burn injuries and was taken to a hospital, where she is undergoing treatment.
Local residents alerted the police after learning about the incident. Personnel from Nandgram police station reached the field and began examining the circumstances surrounding the deaths and the injury. The incident has raised immediate concerns about the danger posed by damaged or fallen high-tension lines in areas where residents work, farm or collect produce.
ACP Nandgram Ziauddin Ahmed said police were trying to establish when and under what circumstances the high-tension wire broke and fell to the ground. Investigators spoke to local residents and inspected the site as part of the inquiry.
The exact cause of the wire failure has not yet been determined. The available account does not establish whether the line had been reported earlier, how long it remained live on the ground, or which agency was responsible for responding to the damaged infrastructure before the incident.
The deaths underline the risks created when high-voltage electricity infrastructure passes through or near fields and other areas used by residents. A fallen high-tension wire can remain dangerous even when there is no visible sign of damage, making rapid detection, isolation of supply and public warnings critical after a line failure.
For residents of Bhovapur, the immediate concern is the condition of the electricity network around the field and whether other damaged lines or exposed equipment remain hazardous. Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the break, while further details are expected as the inquiry progresses.
