Ghaziabad Electric Shock Tragedy Kills Two Women Near Raj Nagar

Broken power wire near Raj Nagar Extension linked to a Ghaziabad electric shock incident

Two women died and an 18-year-old woman was critically injured after they came into contact with a broken electricity wire near Raj Nagar Extension in Ghaziabad on Tuesday morning, according to police. The incident took place near Migson Society and 22 C.G. Stadium in the Nandgram police station area while the three women were working in a field.

Police said the women suffered severe electric shocks at around 6 am. Their relatives took them to the government hospital in Sanjay Nagar for treatment. Two of them died during treatment, while the third remained in a serious condition.

The deceased were identified as 50-year-old Satyawati, wife of Than Singh, and 20-year-old Ruby, wife of Shivam. The injured woman was identified as 18-year-old Devshree, daughter of Than Singh. All three women were from Khiriya Bakharpur village under the Kadar Chowk police station area of Badaun district and were living near Mission Society in Ghaziabad, according to the report.

The women had gone to work in a field located near a settlement in front of the residential complex. They came into contact with an electricity wire that had fallen at the site. The report did not specify when the wire broke or which agency was responsible for maintaining the electricity line.

Assistant Commissioner of Police, Nandgram, Ziauddin Ahmed, said police received information about the incident at around 8.15 am and reached the spot to gather details. He said the condition of the injured woman was stable at the time of the police update, although the report also described her condition as serious.

The deaths bring attention to the risks created when live electrical infrastructure is left exposed in areas where residential development, informal settlements and agricultural activity exist alongside one another. The location near Raj Nagar Extension has seen rapid urban expansion, making the condition and maintenance of overhead electricity lines a direct safety concern for people working or living around construction and residential zones.

Police began the inquest proceedings for the two deceased women and initiated arrangements for post-mortem examinations. Authorities said law and order at the site remained under control. The immediate police update did not mention whether an electrical utility inspection, technical investigation or compensation process had been announced.

The next formal steps are expected to include the post-mortem examinations, continued treatment of the injured woman and further investigation into how the electricity wire came to be lying in the field and whether any safety measures had been taken around it.
