Gaya and Bodh Gaya will operate under a special Durga Puja traffic plan from Saturday to Wednesday, with heavy vehicles barred for extended hours, restrictions imposed on key roads and diversions introduced to manage crowds and vehicle movement.
The Gaya district administration said heavy vehicle entry into Gaya city will be prohibited from 6 am to 3 am daily during the period. The restriction will also apply to heavy vehicles entering Gaya town from Sikaria Mor. Goods carriers, including trucks and pickup vans arriving from Patna, will be diverted through Ramshila More, Kujapi Nawada Mor and Mehta petrol pump towards their destinations.
Movement of all vehicles, including two-wheelers, three-wheelers and four-wheelers, will be restricted on GB Road and Ramna Road. Restrictions will also apply on the routes from Nadraganj towards Peermansoor, Kirani Ghat towards Dukhharni Temple and Ramna Road. No vehicle will be allowed to proceed on GB Road beyond the collectorate roundabout.
The administration will install drop gates at several locations to regulate vehicle entry and manage festival crowds. The listed points include Gaya College Sports Complex, the collectorate roundabout, Peer Mansoor Mor, Kiranighat, Bata Mor, Nagmatiya Mor, Kashinath Mor, Bhusunda Mor in Ghughritand Mor, Sikaria Mor, Ramshila Mor and Buniyadganj Bypass Mor.
Autos and e-rickshaws travelling from Sikaria Mor to Gaya railway station will be required to follow a designated route through Gaya College Mor, Gewal Bigha Mor, Kashinath Mor, Nagmatiya Mor, Railway Hospital and Railway Crossing No. 1. On the return journey, they will use the route through GRP Mor, Bata Mor, Swarajpuri Road, Kashinath Mor and Gewal Bigha Mor.
The arrangements will also affect Bodh Gaya. Entry of all vehicles from Domuhan, Rajapur Mor and Gandhi Chowk will be restricted from 1 pm to 3 am. Heavy vehicles in Bodh Gaya will face a complete restriction from 6 am to 3 am the following day.
The plan combines extended heavy-vehicle restrictions with localised road closures, route diversions and controlled entry points. For residents, visitors and public transport users, the designated routes and time windows will determine access to central Gaya, the railway station and key areas of Bodh Gaya during the festival period. The restrictions will remain in force until Wednesday, according to the district administration’s announcement.
