The BJP has released its manifesto for the 2026 Gandhinagar civic election, promising AI labs in municipal schools, smart roads, a modern sports complex, heritage tourism and decentralised civic services as part of its five-year vision for the Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation.
The Sankalp Patra was announced on Thursday in the presence of Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi. The manifesto proposes AI-based traffic signals and identifies Ch Road, Roads 2 and 3, and the Gh-7-Pethapur stretch for development as smart roads. It also promises the phased conversion of urban roads to concrete, modernisation of sector approach roads, and improved traffic facilities and safety on key routes.
Education and digital infrastructure form a major part of the BJP’s proposals. The party has promised AI laboratories and smart classrooms in municipal schools, along with digital learning, STEM and robotics-based education. The manifesto also includes a Namo Library, the incorporation of village libraries into the municipal corporation, and a robotics-based sports facility. Data centre development has been proposed to strengthen Gandhinagar’s digital infrastructure.
The civic agenda also places significant emphasis on sports facilities. The BJP has promised a modern sports complex in Gandhinagar for the Commonwealth Games, a cricket stadium at Randheja and a sports complex at Pethapur. Separate gyms for women and modern training facilities for young athletes are also part of the manifesto.
Several proposals focus on public and cultural infrastructure. These include a city centre and performing arts facility, a modern town hall, redevelopment of Meena Bazaar and the upgrading of the Gh-5 open-air theatre. The party has also proposed a themed double-decker air-conditioned bus service under the ‘Gandhinagar City Darshan’ initiative and the development of Ambapur Vav as a heritage site.
The manifesto includes environmental and public-space measures such as a ‘Waste to Best’ wonder park, redevelopment of the Sector-1 lake with a walkway, landscaping and recreational facilities, and theme-based plantation and greening of public spaces. For villages incorporated into the corporation, the BJP has promised urban-level roads, streetlights, drainage, water supply and other civic infrastructure.
The proposals will be presented to voters ahead of polling on October 11, with counting scheduled for October 13. The BJP currently holds an overwhelming majority in the Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation. In the 2021 election, it won 41 of the 44 seats, while the Congress won two and the Aam Aadmi Party won one. Both Congress councillors subsequently joined the BJP.
The manifesto’s proposed projects will now form part of the civic election campaign, with implementation dependent on the party retaining control of the corporation and taking the proposals through municipal planning, budgeting and execution processes.
