Gajwel Tahsildar Swamy has been suspended after a preliminary inquiry found his alleged remarks to a farmer who approached the revenue office over a land dispute to be inappropriate, according to a report by Deccan Chronicle. The action was ordered by Siddipet District Collector K. Hymavathi after a video of the interaction circulated widely on social media.
The farmer, identified as Yesu, had reportedly visited the Gajwel Tahsildar’s office regarding a land-related issue. In the video, the official allegedly asks him whether he was still alive and whether he had consumed pesticide. When the farmer questioned whether the remark had been made intentionally, the official allegedly replied that he had made it deliberately.
The District Collector directed senior officials to inquire into the incident. The Revenue Divisional Officer subsequently submitted a preliminary report, on the basis of which the suspension order was issued. The report supplied to Deccan Chronicle describes the official’s behaviour as inappropriate.
The suspension order also requires Swamy to remain at headquarters and prohibits him from leaving without prior permission. The order does not, by itself, establish the final outcome of any disciplinary proceedings, but it places the official under administrative action while the matter is examined.
The timing of the incident has also become part of the public discussion. Yesu later released another video claiming that the interaction had taken place four or five months earlier. He also said that the Tahsildar was not at fault and that his land dispute had since been resolved. The report does not provide a separate official clarification on the date of the original interaction or explain whether further disciplinary proceedings will follow the preliminary inquiry.
The episode highlights the role of revenue offices as the point at which residents seek help with land records, ownership disputes and related administrative issues. These offices handle matters that can directly affect agricultural livelihoods and property rights, making the conduct of officials during public-facing interactions a significant part of how citizens experience the state.
The remarks attributed to the official have drawn concern independently of whether the land dispute has been settled or whether the video is recent. The report said the incident prompted criticism on social media, with users arguing that the central issue was the alleged treatment of a farmer by a public official.
For the administration, the immediate recorded steps are the preliminary inquiry and suspension. Further action will depend on the official disciplinary process and any subsequent findings or orders from the revenue authorities.
