Four passengers were injured after a tanker crashed into a BEST wet-lease bus at Cheda Nagar Junction in Mumbai at around 6.55am on October 14, shattering three windowpanes and sending broken glass into the bus.
The bus, bearing registration number MH-03-CV-7035, was operating route A-373/32 from Vaishali Nagar to Mahul. It had stopped at a traffic signal after a motorcycle suddenly came in front of it, according to the report. A tanker travelling from Mumbai towards Vashi then collided with the middle portion of the bus’s right side.
The impact damaged three windows and injured four passengers. Bhagyashree Khedkar, 14, sustained an injury below her right eye. Aditi Koyande, 22, suffered bleeding injuries to her right elbow and leg.
The bus conductor took both women to Rajawadi Hospital for treatment. A male passenger with minor injuries refused medical treatment, while another injured passenger was taken to a hospital by relatives, the report said.
The incident involved a public bus operating on a route connecting residential areas with Mahul, highlighting the immediate safety risks faced by passengers when heavy vehicles and buses share busy junctions. The report did not provide details about the tanker driver’s condition, the motorcycle’s identity or the extent of damage to the two vehicles.
Police took the BEST bus and the tanker to Tilak Nagar police station for further action. Further proceedings will be based on the police investigation into the circumstances of the collision.
