Festival Special Trains Add Travel Options, But Timetable Checks Are Essential

Festival special trains at an Indian railway station during the Diwali travel rush

Festival special trains announced for the Diwali and Chhath travel period are expected to add rail options on routes linking Madhya Pradesh, Delhi, Haridwar and Bihar, while temporary passenger holding areas are planned at major Bihar stations. However, the supplied report contains conflicting train numbers for some services, making verification through official railway systems essential before passengers book their journeys.

According to the report by Aaj Tak Business, West Central Railway has announced special services from stations including Rani Kamlapati, Rewa, Katni, Satna, Jabalpur and Somnath. The services are intended to provide additional capacity during a period when regular trains face heavy demand and airfares may be unaffordable for many passengers travelling home for the festivals.

Two services have been listed between Rani Kamlapati and Danapur. Train number 01667 is reported to operate from Rani Kamlapati to Danapur from October 12 to November 16, 2026, departing at 2:25 pm and reaching Danapur at 9:15 am the following day. Train number 01668 is listed for the return direction from October 13 to November 17, departing Rani Kamlapati at 11:20 am and reaching Danapur at 10:50 am the next day.

For the Rewa–Rani Kamlapati route, the report lists train number 02192 on October 17 and 24 and November 7 and 14, departing Rewa at 12:30 pm and arriving at Rani Kamlapati at 9:15 pm. The return service, train number 02191, is listed for the same dates, departing at 10:15 pm and reaching Rewa at 7:20 am the next day.

A daily service between Katni and Satna is reported from October 10 to October 22. Train number 09015 is listed as departing Katni at 5:45 am and reaching Satna at 8:45 am, while train number 09016 is listed for the return journey at 6:30 pm, reaching Katni at 8:50 pm.

The report also lists a Rewa–Dr Ambedkar Nagar service from October 25, every Sunday, with a return service from October 26, every Monday. A Somnath–Danapur service is listed from October 10 to November 14 on Saturdays, with the return service scheduled from October 12 to November 16 on Mondays. The report further mentions special services from Jabalpur to Delhi and Haridwar during October and November.

However, train numbers 01703 and 01704 appear in the supplied report both for the Rewa–Dr Ambedkar Nagar service and for the Jabalpur–Haridwar service. This overlap is a material timetable inconsistency. The report does not establish whether the numbers are typographical errors, separate services with incorrect numbering, or a result of incomplete timetable information. These details should therefore not be treated as confirmed until checked against an official railway timetable or booking system.

The passenger arrangements described in the report extend beyond additional trains. East Central Railway is reported to be planning temporary holding areas at 15 major railway stations in Bihar from November 3. These facilities are expected to accommodate around one lakh passengers daily. Patna Junction, Rajendra Nagar Terminal and Patliputra Junction are each expected to have space for about 10,000 passengers.

The holding areas are expected to include train-status display boards, public-address systems, drinking water, seating and medical booths. The report also says that a railway war room will operate around the clock during the festival rush to support crowd management and respond to operational requirements.

Passengers are advised to check seat availability, service dates, departure and arrival times and any timetable changes through the official railway booking system and the National Train Enquiry System. Railway helpline 139 is also cited as an information channel. Until the conflicting train numbers are clarified through an authoritative railway source, the listed routes and timings should be treated as reported information requiring verification.
