Faridabad Sewer Water Tragedy Kills Cyclist Near Transformer

Faridabad sewer water pooled beside a roadside transformer on a congested urban road

A cyclist died after falling while trying to avoid sewage water on Sanjay Colony’s 22-foot Road in Faridabad and coming into contact with a roadside transformer, according to a report by Jagran – New Delhi.

The deceased was identified as Dinesh Tiwari, a resident of Shiv Colony. The report said Tiwari worked as a labourer in a factory and was the father of three daughters.

The incident occurred when Tiwari was cycling along the road, where sewage water had accumulated. While attempting to avoid the waterlogged stretch, he lost his balance and fell with his bicycle. His hand came into contact with a transformer placed along the roadside, resulting in an electric shock, the report said.

The death brings together two immediate hazards on a public road: accumulated sewage water and electrical equipment positioned close to the movement corridor. The available report does not establish how long the sewage had remained on the road, why the transformer was located at that position, or whether any warning or protective barrier was present around it.

Police sent Tiwari’s body for post-mortem examination. The report did not provide details of any police case, civic inspection, electricity department response or action announced against an agency in connection with the incident.

The incident also leaves unanswered questions about coordination between agencies responsible for sewer maintenance, road safety and electricity infrastructure. For residents using the road, the immediate danger was not limited to poor riding conditions: the attempt to avoid standing water brought a cyclist into contact with a live electrical installation.

No further details about the transformer’s ownership, the condition of its protective casing, the source of the sewage overflow or the next steps by civic and electricity authorities were provided in the report. The post-mortem process is the next stated official step in the case.
