Dommasandra Flyover Faces Delay as Over 50% Work Remains

The Dommasandra flyover project near Bengaluru has more than half its work still pending after eight years, prompting Greater Bengaluru Development Minister Krishna Byre Gowda to direct officials to speed up construction and address traffic congestion on surrounding routes.

Byre Gowda inspected the project with officials after delays on the flyover and rising vehicle density on the Attibele–Dommasandra–Hoskote road. He asked the Karnataka Road Development Corporation Limited, the Public Works Department and Greater Bengaluru Authority officials to work together to improve traffic movement and make commuting easier for the public.

The minister said technical issues had left more than 50% of the flyover work incomplete despite construction having continued for eight years. He said a meeting of officials from the three agencies had been held and instructions issued to accelerate the project.

He also directed officials to reduce congestion at busy junctions on the Dommasandra–Kadugodi road within the next 15 days. The immediate focus, according to his statement, is to improve traffic flow at locations where congestion has increased rather than wait for the flyover project to be completed.

Local residents who met the minister raised problems linked to traffic and the condition of the surrounding roads. The Dommasandra–Varthur corridor has seen a rise in apartment construction and increased movement of residents, the minister said. He directed officials to examine road widening wherever land is available.

The inspection also covered roadside waste and drainage. Byre Gowda instructed authorities to take action against people dumping waste along the roads and to prioritise cleanliness. He further directed officials to build drains on the Dommasandra flyover so that rainwater and other water flows can pass through without obstruction.

The road network connecting Anekal and Attibele with the airport through Sarjapur, Dommasandra and Hoskote was described by the minister as an important link for regional travel. He said improving road quality and ensuring smoother movement for commuters was the responsibility of the authorities.

The minister’s directions place the delayed flyover within a wider set of immediate interventions, including junction-level traffic management, possible road widening, drainage construction and roadside waste control. Officials have been asked to act on congestion at identified junctions over the next 15 days while work on the flyover is accelerated.
