More than half of the document-verification cases linked to notices issued during Delhi’s special intensive revision of the voter list have been completed, with the final electoral roll scheduled for release on December 4, according to the office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Delhi.
The CEO office said documents in 17.03 lakh of the approximately 33 lakh cases covered by notices had been examined. This represents more than 51% of the total cases. The office said all claims and objections would be disposed of by November 30 before the final list is published.
The notices were issued after discrepancies were identified during the revision process. According to the CEO office, around 13.79 lakh voters were unable to link their names with the 2002 electoral roll, while applications submitted by 19.33 lakh people were found to contain errors. The figures represent the two categories of cases for which notices were issued.
The verification process is being carried out at the household level. Booth-level officers are visiting voters’ homes to collect and examine documents, meaning residents do not need to visit government offices for this part of the process, the CEO office said.
The exercise also includes a process for people whose names were left out of the draft electoral roll. Special camps were held at polling centres on Friday to help eligible residents submit applications and address their registration requirements. Eligible voters can apply to have their names added by submitting Form 6.
The administration has also made special arrangements for families who have become homeless and for the registration of transgender voters. These groups can face particular difficulties when address or identity documents do not align easily with standard registration procedures, making the availability of dedicated assistance an important part of the revision exercise.
The revision places the booth-level officer at the centre of the verification process. These officials are responsible for reaching voters, receiving documents and supporting applications at the local level, while the CEO office is responsible for completing the claims-and-objections process and publishing the final roll.
The schedule leaves the current process with two key deadlines. The next special camp is scheduled for October 11, when eligible residents can seek assistance with applications and registration. The authorities have said that all claims and objections will be resolved by November 30, followed by publication of the final Delhi voter list on December 4.
