Delhi Voter List Review Clears 20 Lakh Cases Ahead of Final Roll

Delhi’s voter list correction exercise has resolved documentation or application discrepancies in around 20 lakh cases, while special camps on October 18 and 25 will help eligible residents add or correct their names before the final electoral roll is published on December 4, according to the Chief Electoral Officer’s office.

The exercise is part of the Special Intensive Revision, or SIR, of Delhi’s electoral rolls. Notices were issued after discrepancies were found in the details submitted by voters. The Chief Electoral Officer’s office said around 33 lakh entries had been identified for review, with the resolution process completed in approximately 20 lakh cases. Work on the remaining cases is continuing.

The figures include around 13.79 lakh voters who were unable to map their names to the 2002 electoral roll. Notices were also issued in 19.33 lakh cases where errors were found in application forms. The source report did not specify how these categories overlap, so the figures should not be treated as separate totals without further clarification from the election authorities.

Booth-level officers are visiting voters’ homes to collect and verify documents, meaning residents do not necessarily have to visit election offices for the correction process. The Chief Electoral Officer’s office has also stated that no eligible voter will be removed from the electoral roll without due process.

Special camps are being held at polling stations to help people whose names were left out of the draft electoral roll. The next camps are scheduled for October 18 and 25. Eligible residents can submit Form 6 at these camps to apply for inclusion in the electoral roll. The administration has also made arrangements to register families who have been displaced from their homes and transgender voters.

The scale of the exercise places a substantial administrative burden on Delhi’s election machinery. The Chief Electoral Officer’s office said 14,947 booth-level officers, 902 assistant electoral registration officers, 70 electoral registration officers and 13 district election officers have been deployed to complete the revision.

The process also includes a formal window for claims and objections. According to the schedule cited by the source, all claims and objections will be resolved by November 30, after which the final voter list will be issued on December 4. Residents who have received notices, found errors in their details or believe their names are missing from the draft roll will therefore need to use the designated verification and application channels before those deadlines.
