Delhi train cancellations will affect mail and express services scheduled to arrive at New Delhi and Hazrat Nizamuddin railway stations between 4 am and 2 pm on 10 October, according to a Railway order reported by Live Hindustan. The decision covers trains that leave their originating stations after 2 pm on Friday and are due to reach either station during the Saturday morning window.
The order was issued on 9 October by the Railway Board’s Coaching Directorate. It states that the affected mail and express trains will be cancelled from their originating stations rather than being terminated at an intermediate location. Passengers travelling to central Delhi during the affected period may therefore need to revise their plans and check the status of their services before departure.
The Railway order cited the possibility of severe traffic congestion around both stations as the reason for the cancellations. New Delhi and Hazrat Nizamuddin are among the capital’s busiest railway hubs, serving long-distance services as well as passengers transferring to road-based public transport and other city networks. The order, as reported, does not establish that the cancellations were directly caused by the planned demonstrations.
The disruption comes as the Cockroach Janata Party, referred to as CJP in the report, and student organisations have announced a protest march at Jantar Mantar on 10 October. The groups are seeking the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and have raised allegations concerning irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. The party has said the protest will remain peaceful, while also stating that it intends to proceed despite not receiving permission.
The planned demonstration is expected to bring additional security and traffic-management requirements to central Delhi. The report said Delhi Police had increased security ahead of the event, with police and central forces expected to be deployed in large numbers. However, neither the Railway authorities nor the report confirmed that the protest itself was the direct trigger for the train cancellations; the stated operational reason remains the anticipated traffic congestion near the two stations.
The order applies to services arriving at New Delhi or Hazrat Nizamuddin between 4 am and 2 pm on 10 October. It concerns mail and express trains that begin their journeys after 2 pm on 9 October. Passengers using these services should rely on updated information from the Railways or their booking channels for the status of individual trains, as the reported order covers a time-bound group of services rather than every train operating in Delhi.
The cancellations coincide with a wider political mobilisation over the Election Commission. Members of the opposition INDIA alliance have previously protested over electoral rolls and voting rights, while the report said security arrangements were being strengthened before the Jantar Mantar event. The next operational milestone is the implementation of the Railway order during the 4 am to 2 pm arrival window on 10 October.
