Delhi Train Cancellations Disrupt 38 Services Ahead of CJP Protest

Delhi train cancellations affecting passengers at a railway station before a protest

Delhi train cancellations will affect at least 38 Mail and Express services scheduled to arrive at New Delhi and Hazrat Nizamuddin stations between 4 a.m. and 2 p.m. on October 10, 2026, after the Railway Ministry anticipated severe road congestion and large crowds linked to a proposed Cockroach Janta Party protest.

The Railway Ministry communicated the decision to railway zones, citing the risk of traffic congestion around the two major stations. Northern Railway Chief Public Relations Officer Himanshu Shekhar Upadhyay issued a public statement confirming the cancellation of the affected services.

The list includes major long-distance trains such as the Sealdah–New Delhi Rajdhani Express, CSMT–Hazrat Nizamuddin Rajdhani Express, Ranchi–New Delhi Garibrath Express and Howrah Junction–New Delhi Rajdhani Express. Two Delhi-bound trains from Indore—the Indore–Hazrat Nizamuddin Express and the Indore–New Delhi Express—have also been cancelled. Services from Lucknow, including the Lucknow Mail and Lucknow–New Delhi AC Superfast Express, are among those affected.

The cancellations follow disruption caused by protests and road blockades in the national capital on October 8. The Railway Ministry said more than 5,000 passengers missed their trains that day because severe traffic jams prevented them from reaching railway stations. Passengers missed services including the Dibrugarh Rajdhani, Mumbai Rajdhani and Vande Bharat trains.

The CSMT–Hazrat Nizamuddin Rajdhani cancellation alone has affected close to 1,200 passengers, according to the report. Passengers whose trains have been cancelled will receive a 100% refund on their tickets. Those who purchased tickets at physical reservation counters will have to return to the counters to claim refunds or rebook their journeys.

Two services from Mumbai Central to Delhi have not been cancelled but delayed by five hours. The Mumbai Central–New Delhi Tejas Rajdhani Express and Mumbai Central–Hazrat Nizamuddin August Kranti Tejas Rajdhani Express are scheduled to depart after 9 p.m. on October 9, according to the Railway Ministry.

The disruption also covers some services that departed on October 9 and trains scheduled to run on October 10. These include the Udaipur City–Hazrat Nizamuddin service, Shri Ganganagar–Tilak Bridge service, Hazrat Nizamuddin–Udaipur City service and commuter trains connecting Delhi with Sirsa, Bhiwani and Shri Ganganagar. Select services between Rewari, Hisar and Delhi have also been cancelled.

Railway officials said trains arriving at Anand Vihar Terminal and Old Delhi Railway Station would operate as usual. Passengers have been advised to check their live train-running status on official National Train Enquiry System platforms before travelling. The cancellations and revised departure times remain linked to the anticipated protest-related congestion around New Delhi and Hazrat Nizamuddin stations.
