The Delhi Traffic Police has advised commuters to avoid the Rajghat–Kisan Ghat Road and nearby routes between 1 pm and 4 pm on October 8, as opposition MPs are scheduled to travel to Rajghat after lunch during the third day of an INDIA bloc demonstration.
The advisory covers the Rajghat–Kisan Ghat corridor and surrounding roads, where traffic disruption is expected because of a proposed sit-in at Kisan Ghat. The police have asked people to avoid the affected routes unless their journey is essential and to plan their trips before leaving home.
Commuters using the corridor during the three-hour period have been advised to allow additional travel time and follow directions issued by traffic personnel. The disruption is linked to the announced movement of opposition parliamentarians to Rajghat after lunch, according to the report carrying the traffic advisory.
The Delhi Traffic Police has suggested the JLN Marg–Minto Road–Ajmeri Gate route as an alternative for travellers who need to cross the affected area. The advisory does not indicate that the alternate route will remain free of congestion, but asks road users to avoid the proposed demonstration zone and plan accordingly.
The traffic police has also appealed to residents to use public transport where possible to help reduce pressure on roads around Rajghat and Kisan Ghat. Motorists have been told to park only in designated parking areas and comply with instructions from traffic personnel at the site.
The advisory comes as the opposition demonstration enters its third day. The group has announced that its members will go to Rajghat after lunch, while the proposed sit-in at Kisan Ghat is expected to affect traffic movement in the surrounding area during the afternoon window.
The police have further asked commuters to report any suspicious or unusual object or person immediately by calling 112. Travellers heading towards central Delhi on October 8 have been advised to check the traffic advisory before starting their journey and to allow extra time for the trip.
