A 17-year-old allegedly driving a rented Audi killed a pedestrian in Southwest Delhi after losing control of the vehicle and colliding with two parked cars before striking the man, police said. The crash took place around 2.30 am in Kishangarh on Sunday.
The victim was identified by police as Umashankar, aged around 45. He was taken to the JPN Apex Trauma Centre, where doctors declared him brought dead, according to an officer quoted by the police.
The teenager had rented the Audi through an app to attend a friend’s birthday party, the officer said. While returning home, he allegedly lost control of the car, hit two vehicles parked on the roadside and then rammed into the pedestrian.
Police said the teenager has been apprehended and the Audi has been seized. The account provided by the police describes a sequence in which a late-night loss of control turned a collision with parked vehicles into a fatal crash involving a person on the roadside.
An FIR has been registered at Kishangarh police station under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita relating to causing death by negligence and rash driving, along with provisions of the Motor Vehicle Act, police said. The case will determine the circumstances surrounding the crash and the alleged driving conduct.
The incident also brings together several elements of Delhi’s road-safety environment: high-speed private vehicles, roadside parking, late-night travel and the presence of pedestrians near urban roads. In this case, police said the vehicle first struck two parked cars before hitting Umashankar. No further details about the road’s design, lighting, traffic conditions or the parked vehicles were provided in the report.
The police have taken custody of the vehicle as part of the investigation. The case remains subject to the legal process, while the teenager’s apprehension and the FIR form the immediate official actions reported after the crash.
