Delhi Schools Move Classes Online as Protest Disrupts Plans

Delhi schools revise schedules amid protest-related Metro and security concerns

Several Delhi schools and colleges have changed their schedules for October 10, moving classes online, postponing examinations and rescheduling parent-teacher meetings amid security concerns and anticipated Metro disruptions linked to a protest at Jantar Mantar.

Sardar Patel Vidyalaya in Lodhi Estate has informed parents that classes VI to XII will be conducted online on Saturday because of extensive barricading in the New Delhi area and concerns over students’ safety. The school has also suspended its Friday stay-back facility and postponed the inauguration of its Activity Week, which was scheduled for Saturday.

At Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan’s Mehta Vidyalaya on Kasturba Gandhi Marg, sports day practice and enrichment classes for students in classes IX to XII have been cancelled. Raghubir Singh Junior Modern School in central Delhi has postponed its parent-teacher meeting, at which report cards were due to be discussed. The school said a revised schedule would be announced later.

Colleges have also revised examination arrangements. Bharati Vidyapeeth’s College of Engineering in Paschim Vihar has moved its Saturday mid-term examinations to Monday, citing anticipated closure of entry and exit gates at several Metro stations and possible disruption to services. The examination timings will remain unchanged.

Maharaja Agrasen Institute of Technology in Rohini has deferred its Saturday mid-term examinations to October 12 after receiving a communication from Delhi Police regarding expected Metro restrictions. The changes indicate that the anticipated disruption is affecting institutions outside the immediate New Delhi area, with colleges in Paschim Vihar and Rohini also adjusting their plans.

The schedule changes cover several types of institutional activity, including regular classes, examinations, sports preparation, enrichment programmes, student stay-back arrangements and parent-teacher meetings. In the case of schools, safety concerns and the expected movement restrictions have directly affected attendance and on-campus operations. For colleges, anticipated access problems at Metro stations have been cited in decisions to postpone examinations.

The protest at Jantar Mantar has also placed transport access and security arrangements at the centre of planning for educational institutions holding activities on October 10. Schools and colleges have responded through online teaching, cancellations and postponements rather than proceeding with their original schedules.

The affected institutions are expected to communicate revised dates and arrangements to students and parents. Raghubir Singh Junior Modern School will announce a new date for its parent-teacher meeting, while the postponed examinations at Bharati Vidyapeeth’s College of Engineering and Maharaja Agrasen Institute of Technology are scheduled for Monday and October 12 respectively.
