Delhi School Online Classes Ordered as Jantar Mantar Protest Looms

Delhi school online classes announced as transport restrictions tighten near Jantar Mantar

Delhi schools in the New Delhi area are moving Classes 6 to 12 online on 10 October, while rail and metro operations are also facing restrictions, as authorities prepare for a proposed protest at Jantar Mantar against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

According to a report by Live Hindustan, the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) has announced a demonstration against Kumar. Delhi Police has not granted permission for the protest, citing alleged non-compliance with legal directions and assurances during an earlier demonstration by the organisation.

The proposed gathering has prompted schools near Jantar Mantar to change their operations. Messages sent by schools to parents said Classes 6 to 12 would be conducted online on 10 October as a precautionary measure for student safety. Stay-back activities after school have also been cancelled.

A scheduled opening programme for Activity Week has been postponed, with the revised date to be announced later. School administrations have asked parents to cooperate with the temporary changes. The instructions are focused particularly on schools in and around the New Delhi area, where a large gathering is considered possible.

Railway operations have also been altered. The Railway Board cancelled some mail and express trains scheduled to arrive at New Delhi and Hazrat Nizamuddin railway stations between 4 am and 2 pm on 10 October. The cancellations apply to trains that were due to depart from their originating stations after 2 pm on 9 October and reach either of the two Delhi stations during the specified period.

Separately, Delhi Police has asked the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation to keep 57 stations closed from 9 pm on 9 October through Saturday, according to the report. The request was made because of the possibility of crowds gathering in sensitive areas linked to the proposed protest.

The reported measures affect several parts of the city’s daily movement system at the same time: school attendance, long-distance rail travel and access to metro stations. The restrictions are concentrated around central Delhi, where Jantar Mantar is located and where demonstrations can affect nearby transport hubs, public institutions and educational establishments.

The police decision to deny permission remains the stated basis for the wider precautionary measures. The source report does not provide details of the specific stations covered by the 57-station request or the full list of cancelled trains. Parents and passengers have therefore been advised through institutional notices and railway-related updates to account for the operational changes on 10 October.
