Delhi Protest Advisory Urges Peace as Police Detain 200

Delhi protest barricades near a restricted public area ahead of a demonstration

The Cockroach Janta Party has issued a Delhi protest advisory urging participants to remain peaceful, follow police directions and avoid breaching barricades, as police detained around 200 protesters and heavy restrictions were reported around Central Delhi’s Jantar Mantar.

The advisory was released on Saturday morning ahead of the protest called by the group. It asked protesters not to enter restricted areas, force their way through barricades or obstruct emergency services. The group also urged participants to avoid violence, physical confrontations, threats and intimidation, “irrespective of provocation.”

The advisory comes as authorities have put up heavy barricading across Central Delhi, particularly around the protest site. The measures are intended to regulate access to the designated area, but they also affect movement through one of the capital’s most tightly controlled public zones during demonstrations. The report did not specify the number of barricades, the precise restrictions imposed or the police authority responsible for the arrangements.

The Cockroach Janta Party, in its briefing, warned protesters against damaging public or private property. It specifically listed vandalism, stone-pelting, arson and the destruction of barricades as actions that could endanger lives and undermine the purpose of the protest. Participants were also told not to carry weapons, sticks, stones, inflammable substances or other objects that could be used to injure people.

The group asked protesters to report anyone encouraging violence, vandalism or unlawful activity to a designated CJP coordinator and, where safe, to the police. It also advised participants not to threaten or abuse anyone and to follow lawful directions while remaining within designated boundaries.

The advisory addressed the use of phones and social media during the protest. Protesters were told not to circulate unverified claims, misleading videos, rumours or messages intended to create panic or hostility. The CJP said incidents should be recorded responsibly and only when doing so was safe and lawful, without interfering with police duties, obstructing other people or putting the person recording at risk. It also cautioned against publishing unverified allegations against individuals.

The group further advised protesters not to physically resist if detained. Participants were told to ask for the reason for their detention and seek legal assistance. The Indian Express reported that around 200 protesters had been detained since the morning, including YouTuber Dhruv Rathee, who was detained from Sector 56 in Gurugram after arriving in the National Capital Region ahead of the protest.

CJP leaders Abhijeet Dipke, Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das were scheduled to arrive in Delhi on a flight from Mumbai at around 10:20 am on Saturday. The advisory’s instructions remain focused on conduct at and around the protest site, including compliance with barricading, protection of public and private property, and restraint in sharing information online.
