Delhi Pollution Monitoring Gets Real-Time Command Centre

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Thursday inaugurated the Delhi Pollution Control Committee’s Integrated Command and Control Centre in east Delhi, launching a system intended to monitor pollution sources in real time and coordinate faster action by departments across the city.

The centre will combine pollution data, artificial intelligence-based analysis, public complaints and field inspection information, according to a statement from the Chief Minister’s Office. The stated objective is to ensure that pollution-related information is converted into field action and measurable outcomes rather than remaining limited to monitoring.

The system is designed to identify pollution hotspots, violations and sources quickly and pass the information to the departments responsible for taking action, Ms. Gupta said. It will operate on a “Detect, Analyse, Act, Verify” principle, under which a problem is identified, assessed, acted upon and then checked for the outcome.

The command centre has been established at the Delhi Pollution Control Committee’s office. Its stated functions include integrating information from different sources and enabling coordination among departments concerned with pollution control. The Chief Minister’s Office did not provide details in the statement on the number of sensors connected to the platform, the specific departments linked to it or the response timelines that will apply to alerts.

Ms. Gupta said the government’s approach would combine technology, data and field enforcement. She said action was being undertaken simultaneously across major pollution sources, including mechanical road sweeping, dust control, smog guns, mist sprays, construction-site monitoring, expansion of green cover, clean transport and electric mobility.

Construction and road dust are among the areas that the new system is expected to monitor through the broader enforcement framework described by the Chief Minister’s Office. The statement, however, did not specify how violations detected through the centre would be penalised or how residents would be able to track the status of complaints and enforcement action.

The inauguration comes as Delhi’s pollution-control administration seeks to link monitoring with on-ground intervention across multiple agencies. The command centre’s effectiveness will depend on how quickly alerts are assigned, acted upon and independently verified, although the government’s statement did not announce operational performance targets or a public reporting schedule.
